u-blox SARA-R500E LTE-M Module utilizes u-blox’s UBX-R5 cellular chipset and integrates an onboard SIM with bundled LTE-M connectivity. The integrated SIM incorporates all the attributes and features required to connect the module to the cellular network. The SARA-R500E replaces standard SIM cards, enables connection to the LTE-M network, and is specifically designed for the North American market. The device’s SIM profile and settings are pre-configured, allowing a real out-of-the-box connectivity experience.
The SARA-R500E facilitates an extensive set of 3GPP Rel. 14 attributes pertinent to IoT applications, like power consumption, coverage, data rate, mobility, and positioning improvements. The module is 5G-ready, significantly improving end-product scalability and lifetime. Furthermore, the module is built for customer applications with strong robustness, security, and compactness requirements. The integrated SIM can not be stolen or removed, meeting the needs of sealed devices.
The integrated SIM does not require a SIM card holder and related circuitry, saving costs and space. Also, the need to separately source a SIM card and a connectivity plan is eliminated, as both are offered by u-blox with the SARA-R500E. Users can activate the device using the u-blox Thingstream Platform and choose a data plan.
The SARA-R500E provides the option to subscribe to a general-purpose connectivity plan or the u-blox MQTT Anywhere communication service.
