Texas Instruments DRV8434S Stepper Drivers offer integrated current sense, 1/256 micro-stepping, SPI interface, smart tune technology, and stall detection for industrial and consumer applications. The Stepper Drivers are fully integrated with two N-channel power MOSFET H-bridge drivers, a micro-stepping indexer, and integrated current sensing. The DRV8434S is capable of driving up to 2.5A full-scale output current (dependent on PCB design).
The Texas Instruments DRV8434S Stepper Drivers use an internal current sense architecture to eliminate the need for two external power sense resistors, saving PCB area and system cost. A simple SPI interface with STEP/DIR pins allows an external controller to manage the stepper motor’s direction and step rate. The DRV8434S also includes an integrated torque DAC, which allows scaling the output current through SPI without scaling the VREF reference. Additional protection features are provided for supply undervoltage, charge pump faults, overcurrent, short circuits, open load, and overtemperature. The nFAULT pin indicates fault conditions.
A low-power sleep mode is supported for very low standby current using an nSLEEP pin. The DRV8434S Stepper Drivers feature full-duplex, 4-wire synchronous SPI communication, with daisy chain support for up to 63 devices connected in series, for configurability and detailed fault reporting.
