Texas Instruments DRV8316/DRV8316-Q1 Three-Phase Integrated FET Motor Driver is a single-chip power stage solution designed for driving 12V brushless-DC motors up to 40W. The DRV8316/DRV8316-Q1 driver combines three 1/2H bridges with 40V absolute maximum capability and a very low RDS(ON) of 95mOhms (high-side plus low-side) to enable high power drive capability.
The TI DRV8316/DRV8316-Q1 Motor Driver offers an integrated current sensing feature that eliminates the requirement for external sense resistors. The power management features of the adjustable buck regulator and LDO generate the necessary voltage rails for the DRV8316/DRV8316-Q1 and are used to power external circuits.
The DRV8316/DRV8316-Q1 executes a 6x or 3x PWM control scheme, which can implement sensored or sensorless field-oriented control (FOC), sinusoidal control, or trapezoid control using an external microcontroller. The DRV8316-Q1 is capable of driving a PWM frequency up to 200kHz. The control scheme is highly configurable through hardware pins or register settings ranging from motor current limiting behavior to fault response.
There are many protection features integrated into the DRV8316/DRV8316-Q1, intended to protect the device, motor, and system against fault events. The DRV8316-Q1 devices are AEC-Q100 qualified for automotive applications.
