Skyworks Solutions Inc. Si3404 PoE PD Non-Isolated Buck Evaluation Kits provide a reference design for a power supply in a Power over Ethernet (PoE) Powered Device (PD) application, based on the Si3404 PoE IC. The Si3404 is a highly-integrated, IEEE 802.3at Type 1-compliant, Pulse-Width-Modulated (PWM) Switching Regulator. The Si3404 integrates all power management and control functions required in a Power-over-Ethernet application.
The Si3404 PoE PD Non-Isolated Buck Evaluation Kits are offered in 3.3V/2.1A, 5V/1.4A, 12V/1.25A, and 24V/0.625A variants. The efficiency and maximum power of the Evaluation Kit depends on the output voltage. Higher output voltage configurations will have higher efficiency and output power capabilities while lower output voltage configurations have lower efficiency and output power.
The Evaluation Kits are shipped with silicon type diode bridges installed. If higher efficiency is needed, the silicon type diodes can be replaced with
Schottky diodes.
The chart shows the end-to-end EVB efficiency, where voltage drop on the diode bridge is included and LEDs are removed.
