RECOM Power 3D Power Packaging for Low Power DC/DC Converters

RECOM Power has implemented 3D assembly techniques to utilize the Z-axis in its next-generation of DC/DC converter modules. DC/DC converter modules are required to be handled, placed, and soldered like a standard SMT component while maintaining a low profile to match modern electronic devices. Therefore, the footprint must remain small to be superior over using a converter module instead of a discrete design.

RPMxx Series

RECOM RPMB/RPMH Switching Regulator Modules feature a 30W power rating, thermally enhanced, 25-pad, LGA package, and 11.7mm x 12.19mm x 3.75mm profile height. Power density is achieved within a four-layer internal PCB that is enclosed with six-sided metallic shielding that utilizes plugged and blind vias for excellent thermal conductivity and low EMI.

The unique packaging provides heat dissipation in order to deliver full power at an ambient temperature exceeding +85°C without resorting to forced air (fan) cooling.

RPX Series

RPX DC/DC Converters have a footprint of 4.5mm x 4mm x 2mm high in a QFN package with a 2.5A output current. The 1A version is smaller at 3mm x 5mm x 1.6mm high. This power density is achieved by using a flip-chip on lead-frame construction with overmolding. This construction provides the added benefits of tight switching current loops, generating low EMI, along with high power density, and optimized thermal performance that cannot be reached within a discrete solution.

RxCTxS Series

R05CT05S DC/DC Converters include a proprietary transformer that has a low-profile, planar-type design. They are capable of 5kVAC isolation voltage and reinforced 2MOPP isolation. These modules are suitable for card-type applications due to their 2.65mm height. In addition, these converters offer full-line and load regulation with an external enable input, can deliver 500mW with 5V input, and 3.3V or 5V outputs. This series is ideal for powering isolated interfaces in critical medical and industrial applications.

RPL-3.0 Power Modules offer a 3V to 18V input range, 3000mA maximum output current rating, and up to 89% efficiency. These modules are buck converters with integrated inductors in a small 3mm x 3mm x 1.45mm thermally-enhanced LGA package. The RPL-3.0 series is protected against continuous short circuits, output overcurrent, and overtemperature faults. RPL-3.0 Power Modules are ideal for imaging systems, distributed power architecture, portable equipment in telecom, and industrial applications.
