onsemi NCN26010XMNEVB Evaluation Board is a demonstration and development platform for the NCN26010 Industrial Ethernet Transceiver. The NCN26010 is a 10Mb/s, IEEE 802.3cg compliant device including a Media Access Controller (MAC), a PLCA Reconciliation Sublayer (RS), and a 10BASE-T1S PHY designed for industrial multi-drop Ethernet. The NCN26010 provides all physical layer functions needed to transmit and receive data over a single unshielded twisted pair. The onsemi NCN26010 Industrial Ethernet Transceiver communicates to host MCUs via the Open Alliance MACPHY SPI protocol.
The NCN26010XMNEVB Evaluation Board includes all circuitry required to allow the board to act as a 10BASE-T1S MACPHY node when connected to a host computer or microcontroller board via SPI. The Evaluation Board features a pre-installed NCN26010 and two RJ45 connectors to attach a twisted single-pair data cable. For ease of use, standard Cat5 Ethernet cables can be connected to the RJ45 connectors.
The SPI connection can be made through a Pmod connector on the NCN26010XMNEVB Evaluation Board using the RSL10 BDK-GEVK Baseboard. The Evaluation Board can also be connected to a Raspberry Pi single board computer (SBC) using the NCN26010BMNEVB Adapter Board.
To monitor the SPI traffic, the NCN26010XMNEVB Evaluation Board features a 0.1″ pitch pin header that is easily accessible. This header could also connect a logic analyzer, allowing tracing of the SPI signals while operating with a Raspberry Pi or any other suitable host MCU or SBC. Users can also use this connector for connecting to host PCBs (3rd party MCU eval boards) that do not offer a Pmod connector.
