Monolithic Power Systems (MPS) MCS1806 Hall-effect Current Sensors are 3kVRMS isolated current sensors with 500VRMS working voltage and ±2.5% accuracy. These linear Hall-effect current sensors for AC or DC current sensing incorporate differential Hall arrays that cancel out any stray magnetic fields. The MCS1806 current sensors feature ±5A to ±50A bidirectional range, adjustable bandwidth up to 100kHz, and ratio-metric outputs from the supply voltages. These Hall-effect sensors are available in SOIC-8 packages, which are factory-trimmed for accuracy and offer no magnetic Hysteresis. The MCS1806 Hall-effect current sensors are ideally used in multi-phase inverters, motor controls, automotive systems, Switch-Mode Power Supplies (SMPSs), over-current fault protection, and load detection and management.
The working principle includes a primary conductor with a low resistance that allows the current to flow close to the IC containing high-accuracy Hall-effect sensors. This current generates a magnetic field that is sensed at two different points by the integrated Hall-effect transducers. The magnetic field difference between these two points is then converted into a voltage that is proportional to the applied current.
