The Connected Thermometer Demonstration Board demonstrates the implementation of a Bluetooth®-connected digital thermometer using a PIC16F1519 microcontroller (MCU) and RN42 Bluetooth module. The PIC16F1519 is a cost-effective, eXtreme Low Power (XLP) 8-bit MCU that features an integrated capacitive touch sensing module.

Pulse Oximeter

The ability to measure heart rate and blood oxygen level is now being added to consumer products. These measurements can be taken using pulse oximeters that are intended for home medical use and by integrated wrist-worn fitness activity trackers.

A pulse oximeter is a device that uses a non-invasive method for measuring the oxygen saturation level of a person’s blood, as well as their heart rate. LEDs in our Pulse Oximeter Demonstration transmit two wavelengths of light through a finger to a photodetector. From this, the Pulse Oximeter Demonstration can measure changing absorbance at each of the two wavelengths, process, and then filter the data to determine the blood oxygen saturation level and heart rate.

Low Power Blood Pressure Meter

A blood pressure meter, or sphygmomanometer, is a device that is used to measure blood pressure. The meter is used with an inflatable cuff for restricting blood flow and a pump to inflate the cuff. Digital blood pressure meters typically measure both systolic and diastolic pressures by an oscillometric detection method, using a piezoelectric pressure sensor.
