KEMET Commercial & Automotive Flex Mitigation Solutions

KEMET Commercial and Automotive Flex Mitigation Solutions offer a variety of flex mitigation solutions designed to reduce the risk of flex cracks. Flexible Termination (FT-CAP) multilayer ceramic capacitors incorporate a unique, flexible termination system that is integrated with the KEMET standard termination materials. A conductive silver epoxy is utilized between the base metal and nickel barrier layers of KEMET’s standard termination system in order to establish pliability, while maintaining terminal strength, solderability and electrical performance. 

Floating Electrode (FE-CAP & FF-CAP) multilayer ceramic capacitors utilize a cascading internal electrode design configured to form multiple capacitors in series within a single monolithic structure. This unique configuration results in fail-open condition if mechanically damaged (cracked). If damaged, the device may experience a drop in capacitance but a short is unlikely.

Open Mode (FO-CAP) capacitors are designed using an electrode pattern that’s is moved away from the termination area of the MLCC.  If a flex crack were to form in the MLCC, the crack would propagate through the ceramic but avoice the active area of the electrodes leading to a fail open condition.
KEMET Power Solutions (KPS) Series stacked capacitors utilize a proprietary lead-frame technology to vertically stack one or two multilayer ceramic chip capacitors into a single compact surface mount package.
