Hammond Manufacturing Classic Audio Transformers feature high-quality magnetics for tube applications such as high-fidelity (hi-fi) audio and guitar amplifiers. Hammond delivers proven expertise and experience in the design and manufacturing of these products. The portfolio includes a variety of transformers, including high and low voltage, single-ended and push-pull tube audio output, modulation, and more.
Hammond has been producing tube output transformers for decades, constantly improving and tweaking their performance. The output transformer is among the most critical components in an audiophile amplifier.
Hammond lists its specifications at full output power and uses -1dB roll-off points to ensure a typical Hammond conservative rating at full output power. These products are built to and tested at a hipot rating of 2000VAC RMS to ensure a long life and maximum versatility. The transformers feature an EI-laminated design that is “ear-tested” and extensively tested.
These high-quality transformers are designed for maximum versatility and are suitable for both triode and pentode Class A operation. All modules include an optional use: 40% screen tap for ultra-linear operation, and ratings are listed at full power and rated plate current.
These single-ended output units are available in 25W to 75W models (1627-1642 Series), and the lamination iron used is M6 grade silicon steel for low loss and the lowest possible distortion at bass frequencies. A factory-set core cap protects against core saturation at full ratings.
The transformers maximize high-frequency response via multiple interleaved windings, which are machine-wound with high-quality copper wire.
The 125SE Series is ideal for restoring older equipment using single-ended audio output in 3W to 25W variants.
Like the single-ended variants, these high-quality transformers are also designed for maximum versatility and include an optional use: 40% screen tap for ultra-linear operation. The push-pull units are designed to be used with most power output tubes available today, and the ratings are listed at full power and rated plate current.
Hammond offers epoxy-potted models (1608-1650 Series) for the ultimate experience in tube output transformers. The series is available in 10W to 280W options.
The cost-effective 125 Series is ideal for restoring older equipment using single-ended audio output in 3W to 15W variants.
Hammond achieves its proven high-frequency performance through the use of interleaved windings between the primary and secondary. The number of interleaved windings is optimized to the wattage of the module. Both the single-ended and push-pull hi-fi output transformers include multiple interleaved windings to maximize high-frequency response. These windings are machine-wound with high-quality copper wire. The multiple interleaved secondaries are wound (series or parallel connecting them) to match 4Ω, 8Ω, and 16Ω load impedances. The primaries of each model, including the single-ended units, include ultra-linear taps at the 40% point.
Hammond gives attention to the look of their products because they are as much on display in some designs as the tubes themselves. The hi-fi models are manufactured with high-grade laminations (M6) and machine-wound with high-quality copper wire. The core is varnished and oven-baked to deliver quiet operation, even at high ambient temperatures. Finally, the end bells are bolted on, and a robust, low-gloss black powder paint finish is used to resist scratching.
