Atmosic Technologies ATMBCN-3202-SS Photovoltaic BLUETOOTH® LE Beacon

Atmosic Technologies ATMBCN-3202-SS Photovoltaic (PV) BLUETOOTH® LE Beacon is a basic reference design utilizing an ATM3202 BLUETOOTH 5.0 SoC with embedded flash. ATMBCN-3202-SS demonstrates how the energy harvesting capabilities of the Atmosic ATM3 SoCs use indoor lighting conditions to offer an extended battery life over other beacon designs or be used to implement a battery-free beacon. The ATMBCN-3202-SS supports a default once-per-second beacon interval at low (~200lux) indoor light levels.

Required light levels needed for PV-based beacons will generally depend on the beacon rate and size of the PV cell. The Atmosic ATMBCN-3202-SS leverages a basic 10.9cm2 Panasonic AM-1454 Amorphous Silicon PV cell and a 33mF supercapacitor to store excess energy. When ambient light is unavailable, or the supercapacitor is depleted, an optional CR1616 coin cell battery can power the device. No rechargeable battery option is implemented in this design.

The software development kit offers two pre-built images so developers can test the unit with the onboard sensors enabled or disabled. This exhibits the performance with and without the power overhead of Temperature/Humidity and accelerometer-type sensors.
