Analog Devices Inc. ADMV4540-EVALZ Evaluation Board

Analog Devices Inc. ADMV4540-EVALZ Evaluation Board is a demonstration and development platform for the ADMV4540 K-Band Quadrature Demodulator. The ADMV4540 is a highly integrated quadrature demodulator with an integrated synthesizer ideally suited for next-generation K-band satellite communication. The RF front end of the ADMV4540 consists of two Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) paths, each with an optimal cascaded, 5dB, double-sideband noise figure at maximum gain while minimizing external components. The dual paths allow support for antenna polarization. Selection of the LNA path can be made through the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI).

The ADMV4540-EVALZ Evaluation Board includes a pre-installed ADMV4540 K-Band Quadrature Demodulator in an LGA-48 package, along with all required external components. The Evaluation Board has two RF inputs (RFIN1 and RFIN2), either of which can be used. The baseband gain can be controlled using the VCTRL inputs (VCTRL_BBVVAx). The four outputs (QOUTP, QOUTN, IOUTN, and IOUTP) of the ADMV4540 are AC-coupled, and a balun is required for each channel to combine the differential signals.

The Analog Devices Inc. ADMV4540-EVALZ Evaluation Board requires the SDP-S (System Demonstration Platform-Serial) Controller Board (EVAL-SDP-CS1Z), which is not supplied with the kit. The SDP-S Controller Board is based on a USB to Serial Engine, providing connectivity to a PC via a USB 2.0 high-speed port. The ADMV4540-EVALZ interfaces to the USB port of a PC via the SDP-S Board. The Analysis, Control, Evaluation (ACE) Software allows simplified programming of the target device.
