ams OSRAM TCS3720 ALS/Color and Proximity Sensors feature ambient light, color (RGB) sensing, and proximity detection with two advanced emitter drivers integrated within a compact 3.34mm x 1.36mm x 0.6mm OLGA package. The ambient light / color sensing function provides four concurrent ambient light sensing channels (Red, Green, Blue, and Clear). A UV/IR blocking filter covers the RGB and Clear channels. To manage display appearance, the architecture accurately measures ambient light while calculating illuminance and color temperature.
The proximity function synchronizes IR emission and detection to sense nearby objects. The engine’s architecture features a self-maximizing dynamic range, ambient light subtraction, advanced crosstalk cancellation, and interrupt-driven I2C communication. Sensitivity, power consumption, and noise can be optimized with adjustable IR VCSEL timing and power. A proximity engine recognizes detect/release events and produces a configurable interrupt whenever the proximity result crosses upper / lower threshold settings.
