ams OSRAM AS8512 Analog Front End (AFE)

ams OSRAM AS8512 Analog Front End (AFE) is a virtually offset-free, low-noise, two-channel measurement device. The AS8512 was developed to accurately measure battery current from the mA range up to the kA range, converging with a 100µΩ shunt resistor in series with the battery rail.

The ams OSRAM AS8512 AFE utilizes the second measurement channel to capture either battery voltage synchronous with the current measurement or measure the analog output of an internal or external temperature sensor. Both channels are matched and can either calculate small signals up to ±160mV versus ground through a programmable gain amplifier or sizeable signals in the 0V to 1V range without the amplifier. After analog to digital conversion and filtering, the resulting 16-bit data is accessible via a 4-wire standard serial interface (SPI).
