Melexis MLX90394 Micropower Triaxis® 3D Magnetometer is a 3-axis device suitable for many position sensor applications using Triaxis Hall Technology. The device, specially designed for micropower applications, measures magnetic fields along the X, Y, and Z axes. The measurements and the IC temperature are converted into 16-bit words and then transferred over an I2C communication channel. Measurements can be made upon request or continuously with selectable refresh rates. MLX90394 offers superb noise performance in a small 6-pin package with low current consumption for multiple settings and configurations.
MLX90394’s wake-up modes allow users to put the entire system in deep sleep until the IC detects a magnetic field change on the selected axes either versus an initial measurement (Static Delta), previous measurement (Dynamic Delta), or a predefined absolute threshold (Absolute). This way, busy/slowly drifting magnetic fields can be registered while the device automatically toggles between active and sleep mode.
By clever wiring, the Melexis MLX90394 provides synchronization options through an interrupt pin and two I2C addresses (per device). Four preprogrammed MLX90394 magnetometers can be placed on a single I2C bus.
