High withstand voltage and low on-resistance MOSFETs are suitable for PWM switching circuits of DC-DC converters. By keeping on-resistance low, heat generation and current consumption can be minimized and reduce output loss. Toshiba’s Power MOSFET products use high heat dissipation packages to reduce heat generation further.

In addition, voltage conversion is essential for MCUs and SoCs for communication. These are very sensitive to supply voltages, and in some cases, the required performance for transient voltage response is also high. As storage capacity and speed increases, power consumption also increases while SD cards are in use, which means that transient voltage become an issue. In addition, SoCs which control SD cards are becoming lower voltage with finer pitch processes. Since the SD card slot is exposed to the outside, the risk of environmental factors are unavoidable. As such, damage caused by electro-static discharge (ESD) poses a high risk.

Toshiba’s LDO regulators deliver high performance with improved load transient response with minimal current consumption, enabling SD card power optimization. Toshiba also provides TVS diodes (ESD protection diodes) to protect internal circuits from unexpected ESDs that may damage them. Such TVS diodes are designed to minimize insertion loss and attenuation of electrical signals and is available for signal lines up to 10Gbps speed.

Surveillance cameras must operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As such, the power never turns off, but the storage capacity of HDDs and SSDs used in the recording unit is limited. When it’s time to replace full storage devices, it doesn’t power down first. Instead, it’s hot-swapped. This requires features found in Toshiba’s eFuse IC which helps protect power lines from hot-swapping side effects like routine power surges, short-circuit, overcurrent, overvoltage, and inrush current suppression. This eFuse IC is IEC62368-1 certified.
