Texas Instruments TPS714 Low-Dropout (LDO) Linear Voltage Regulators are low-quiescent current devices that offer the benefits of low-power operation and a wide input voltage range in miniaturized packaging. Thus, the TPS714 is designed for battery-powered applications and as a power-management attachment to low-power microcontrollers.
The TPS714 is available in both fixed and adjustable versions. The adjustable version uses external feedback resistors to set the output voltage from 1.205V to 8.8V for more flexibility or higher output voltages. The TPS714 LDO supports a low dropout of 650mV (typ) at 80mA of load current. The low quiescent current (3.2µA typically) is stable over the entire range of output load current (0mA to 80mA). The TPS714 also features an internal soft-start to lower the inrush current. The built-in overcurrent limit helps protect the regulator in the event of a load being short or a fault.
The Texas Instruments TPS714 is available in a 2mm×2mm package for high-power dissipation applications, and the SC70-5 package is designed for hand-held and ultra-portable applications.
