Texas Instruments bq25616EVM/bq25616JEVM Evaluation Module (EVM)

Texas Instruments bq25616EVM/bq25616JEVM Evaluation Module (EVM) are fully assembled and tested circuits for evaluating the bq25616 devices. The bq25616 is a standalone 3A single-cell battery charger optimized for low portable designs. It also includes USB BC1.2 input current limit detection and OTG reverse synchronous boost operation. The standalone control includes the input current limit, the charge current, and the charge voltage regulation. This evaluation module features an adjustable input current limit, charging current, and charging voltage. The Texas Instruments bq25616EVM/bq25616JEVM can also test the D+/D- input source type detection, external input over-voltage protection, and simulate battery high and low-temperature conditions.

Features

  • Supports 3.9V to 13.5V input voltage range with 22V absolute maximum input voltage (VBUS) rating
  • 92% charge efficiency at 2A from 5V input and 92% boost efficiency at 1A output
  • Output short circuit protection and soft-start up to 500uF capacitive load in OTG mode
  • 10uA low battery leakage current with system voltage standby
  • 130nS fast turn-off of optional external OVPFET standing input voltage up to 30V
  • USB BC1.2 and non-standard adapter detection

Required Equipment

  • Power supply #1 (PS1) – A power supply capable of supplying 5V at 3A is required
    • While this part can handle larger voltage and current, it is not necessary for this procedure
  • Load #1 (4-Quadrant Supply, Constant Voltage < 4.5V): A “Kepco” Load, BOP, 20-5M, DC 0 to ±20V, 0 to ±5A (or higher)
    • Alternative Option – A 0-20V/0-5A >30W DC electronic load set in a constant voltage loading mode
  • Load #2 (Electronic or Resistive Load): 10Ω, 5W (or higher)
  • 6x “Fluke 75” multi-meters, (equivalent or better)
    • Alternative Option – (4x) equivalent voltage meters and (2x) equivalent current meters
    • The current meters must be capable of measuring at least 5A
