Analog Devices Inc. MAX33040 Shield Evaluation Kit (MAX33040ESHLD) provides a demonstration and development platform for the MAX33040E CAN Transceiver. The MAX33040E is a +3.3V Control Area Network (CAN) transceiver with integrated protection for industrial applications. This device has extended ±40V fault protection on CANH and CANL, ±25V Common-Mode Range (CMR), and ±40kV ESD protection. These features make the MAX33040E CAN Transceiver well suited for applications where there is moderate electrical noise that can influence the ground levels between two nodes or systems.
ADI MAX33040 Shield Evaluation Kit includes a pre-installed MAX33040E CAN Transceiver in a SOT-23-8 package. The MAX33040ESHLD can be used with the Mbed™ or Arduino® platform to communicate on a CAN bus, or it can be used as a standalone evaluation board. The board features test points enabling access to the key signal pins of the MAX33040E Transceiver. The MAX14931 Digital Isolator is used as a level translator with a 1.71V to 5.5V supply range.
The MAX33040ESHLD requires two power supplies. A 3.0V to 3.6V supply is required for the MAX33040E transceiver, and a 1.71V to 5.5V supply is required for the microcontroller domain. When the MAX33040ESHLD is used with an Arduino or Mbed board, the power supply for the MAX33040E transceiver can also come from the 3.3V rail of the Arduino/Mbed board.
The MAX33040ESHLD also has a microSD card socket for easy use in OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) applications.
