Monolithic Power Systems (MPS) EV5920-5048-V-00A Evaluation Board is designed to demonstrate the features of the MP5920 and MP5048 Hot-Swap Intelli-Fuse Solutions. The MP5920 is a hot-swap protection controller that protects the circuitry from transients on the input. It works with an Intelli-Fuse that feeds back current, voltage, and temperature information to the IC. The Intelli-Fuse can be turned on and off via the ON pin. The MP5048 is a monolithic, integrated controller and switch that can operate as a standalone device or be controlled via a hot-swap controller.
The MP5920 limits the maximum load current of the Intelli-Fuse by controlling the current limit reference voltage via the CLPWM pin. The PMBus interface allows the IC to read the current, voltage, and temperature data and input power from a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC).
The MP5048 can drive up to 15A of continuous current per device. It simplifies system design by providing an integrated solution to monitor the output current (IOUT) and die temperature. This feature eliminates the need for an external current-sense power resistor, power MOSFET, or thermal sense. The MP5048 detects the power MOSFET gate, source, and drain short conditions to provide feedback to the controller. It can also be paralleled for higher current applications.
The Monolithic Power Systems (MPS) EV5920-5048-V-00A Evaluation Board is designed to connect to a PC using the EVKT-USBI2C-02 USB to I2C/PMBus Dongle. Graphic User Interface (GUI) software can then be used to view and program the parameters of the target devices on the Evaluation Board.
