STMicroelectronics EVLMG4-500WIBCK Evaluation Board provides a reference design for a dimmable LED driver circuit with a GaN (Gallium Nitride) based, synchronously rectified inverse buck topology. The switching element and diode of the circuit are replaced by the MASTERGAN4 600V Half-Bridge Driver, mounted on a daughterboard to obtain a compact and scalable application. The HVLED002 Current Mode LED Controller manages the inverse buck mainly composed of T1 and MASTERGAN4. The onboard VIPER06 High Voltage Offline Converter generates the supply of the HVLED002. The VIPER06 converts the input voltage of the buck to the voltage needed at the VDD pin, eliminating the need for an external power supply.
The STMicroelectronics EVLMG4-500WIBCK Evaluation Board is configured to generate 1A, but different output currents are selectable by changing the shunt resistor combination on the daughterboard with the MASTERGAN4.
The Evaluation Board operates with a 400V input voltage and an output voltage range between 150V and 350V.
The EVLMG4-500WIBCK includes analog and PWM dimming circuits. These circuits regulate the output current between 0% and 100%. Over-voltage and short circuit protection are also provided.
